Youth health care and youth services (Amsteltaal-Zuid)
Youth health care
The GGD's Youth Health Care service (JGZ) is available to all children, young people and their parents. You can contact them for advice and support on healthy growing up and parenting. They provide vaccinations and monitor the development of children in Amstelveen from pregnancy to the age of 18.
School examinations
A youth doctor, youth nurse and doctor's assistant from the Youth Health Care service (JGZ) are affiliated with Amsteltaal. Children aged 5-6 and 10-11 are seen at school by the doctor's assistant or youth nurse. You will automatically receive an invitation for this at home.
During the examination, your child's height and weight will be measured. Your child will remain fully clothed. For children aged 5-6, the doctor's assistant will also perform an eye test and hearing test. Parents will be asked to complete a digital questionnaire in advance.
New to the Netherlands
All children who are new to the Netherlands receive a letter from the JGZ. We ask you to provide us with your contact details so that we can get in touch with you. The youth health doctor will then email you with questions about your child's health and development and ask about the vaccinations your child has previously received. Together, we will discuss whether you have any questions or concerns and whether your child needs vaccinations.
Cooperation
We work together with schools and youth care workers. Several times a year, we hold meetings to discuss children who are causing concern and to see how we can help them. This always requires the parents' consent first.
Contact
You can always contact the JGZ yourself if you have any questions or would like to make an appointment. If you have any questions or concerns about your child's development, behaviour or health, or about vaccinations, please contact them.

Youth services
Every primary school in the municipality has a youth worker. At Amsteltaal Zuid, these are Silla Costa Moreira and Jamie van Egmond. Together with the school's internal counsellor, they look at how they can support parents with questions or concerns about their child's development and/or parenting. Sometimes, a single conversation is enough to move forward. If more support is needed, the youth social worker can work with you as a parent to explore what
might be useful or necessary. The youth social worker can help you with referrals to Youth Care within the municipality of Amstelveen and can send you the online referral form. Support from the municipality is voluntary.
Both parents and the school can contact Silla and Jamie if there are concerns about a child. The school will ask for your permission before involving the youth counsellor in discussions about your child. Only with your permission can the youth counsellor share information with the school.
For informal consultation and advice, you can contact Silla and Jamiefrom Friday 3 October 2025 at 9 a.m. The consultation hours take place every first Friday of the month at Amsteltaal Zuid.
