Amsteltaal consists of eight newcomer groups:
- One foundation stage group (the Red Tulips) for pupils aged 4 - 6 years
- One group 3 (the White Tulips) for pupils aged 6/7 years olld
- Two groups 3/4 (the Green and Turquoise Tulips) for pupils aged 6/7/8 years old
- Three middle groups (the Lila, Orange and Yellow Tulips) for pupils aged 7-10 years.
- One advanced stage group (the Blue Tulips) for pupils aged 10-12 years.
The actual number of children in each group depends on the number of applications. Therefore, it is possible that a child may be placed in a different group, if their particular age group is full.
Each group contains a maximum of 16 pupils, originating from countries all over the world. Teachers give instruction to small groups of children.
Every day, we work intensively, and according to NT2 didactics, on the following:
• Vocabulary
• Sound education
• Technical reading
• Reading comprehension
• Grammar
• Spelling
• Maths
Naturally, we also work on:
• Crafts
• Music
• Games and expression
• Gymnastics
We draw up an Individual Development Plan (IDP) in Dutch Individueel Ontwikkelingsplan; IOP)) for each pupil, containing learning objectives and the learning trajectory that is to be followed.
