Complaints procedure

As a parent, you may be dissatisfied with matters concerning the school. In most cases, it is wise to contact the teacher, IB teacher or headmaster at an early stage. Often, a solution can be found by mutual agreement. See here a schematic representation of the steps of the complaints procedure.

Reporting to the board
In case of serious complaints, such as sexual harassment, bullying or discrimination, you can contact an external confidential advisor. In the case of suspected sex offences, staff are obliged to report this immediately to the board, which must then make a report. In such cases, the internal confidential counsellors refer directly to the external confidential counsellor.

Submitting a formal complaint
When consultation at school level does not provide a solution, a formal complaint can be submitted to the Amstelwijs board or to the complaints committee.

Important: According to the complaints procedure, you first go through the following steps before filing a formal complaint:
- Consultation with the person involved
- Discussion with the management
- Contact with the internal or external confidential advisor
- Submit a formal complaint to the competent authority or the complaints committee

External confidential advisor
The external confidential advisor is independent and investigates whether mediation is possible. If necessary, she will guide you further in the procedure and can support you in submitting a complaint to the board or the complaints committee. The confidential advisor has a duty of confidentiality, even after her duties have ended.
